The Young Rangers continued remotely due to Covid 19. They were due to be out in the field at a nature reserve learning about the importance of pollinators and grasslands. Instead they went on a wildflower and pollinator exploration mission. Their challenge was to correctly identify as many wildflowers and pollinators and share their pictures with the Mendip Hills AONB. They discovered new skills in identification, shared their experiences and explored new places.

Observation skills: When we started our journey the daffodils were just emerging through the ground, we took a picture each time we visited to see If we could see any differences..

Here are some of the quotes that the children shared when they reflected their John Muir Scoot Adventure and how it had made them feel. ‘Calm, happy-not loud noises just us.’ ‘Calm, wow seeing the wildlife, Free.’ ‘Peaceful’ ‘ Makes me feel like an adventurer!’ ‘ I liked helping the environment and animals, keeping them safe from rubbish. ‘ I liked scooting, we got there quicker and had more fun.’ 🛴

A massive thank you to the parents that were able to help. Here are some comments about how they felt about joining in with the John Muir Scoot Adventure. “Being a helper was great, I loved being outside on our scooter adventure. It was very interesting helping the kids with their nature project also. I would definitely do it again if they needed me.” “Helping with the children on the John Muir scoot sessions was great fun. Seeing the children interact with such positivity and encouragement for each other was so inspiring. I only wish I was able to join every week. Highly recommend helping out in the future if you can, (just be prepared for some thigh burn if you’re scooting.)” 🛴 😀
