We took friends on a walk round our favourite paths. We found frog spawn a few months ago then tadpoles at Easter so we looked for froglets. Amber rescued a bee and we found butterflies, ladybirds and beetles.

May 2019 halfterm - we explored the Sussex Heritage Coast. First we went to Seven Sisters Country Park and walked along part of the South Downs Way to get to Cuckmere Haven. This is the estuary of the River Cuckmere. We also discovered how defences where built to protect the estuary from beach invasion during WW2. After seeing the spectacular chalk cliffs that are the Seven Sisters we headed over to Beachy Head. Here the views from the cliff to where stunning. We also took in the Bomber Command memorial. The words “for many, Beach Head would have been their last sight of England” was particularly poignant. To round off our day out and after a pub tea, we spent the evening/ overnight in a Bell Tent at YHA South Downs. 😃

Easter holidays 2019 - we went exploring in the South Downs to discover a WW2 tank wreck. We went up to Kithurst Hill, not far from Storrington. A short deviation off the South Downs Way you can find the remains of a Churchill Tank. It is British built but was used by the Canadian Army when preparing for D-Day. The story goes that it broke down and could not be moved, hence still there today! It has however been cannibalised to restore another Churchill Tank at Bovington Tank Museum. After this day our we where inspired to visit the Churchill Tank at Bovington. It was called Bob!

February halfterm 2019 - our first John Muir Award adventure... We attended the South Downs National Park Authority’s Dark Night Skies event in Lewes. Lots of hands on activities including a giant colouring wall, virtual reality and real telescopes 🔭. We learnt about the importance of dark night skies for wildlife and also the fact that 2019 is the 50th anniversary of the moon landings. The South Downs is also designated as a dark night skies reserve. We shared this day out with our younger cousin who had a great time!
