Overhanging branches of this crack willow were cut away so it would not encroach on the pavement and road, causing hazards to pedestrians and cars. One of the symptoms of nature reserves in urban locations is that certain borders sometimes have to be maintained. The cut branches were placed back along the side of the reserve, hopefully to continue to be used by the wildlife.

24/04/2019 - The group walked to the top of Peniel Heugh today and walked right to the top of the Waterloo Monument. Followed this, they explored Jedburgh Jail and learnt about the Capon Tree

06/03/2019 - Explore around Wooplaw Community Woodland between Galashiels and Lauder. The group followed a marked trail around the woodland and the explored the many sculptures and wooden huts. We also visited the Dryburgh Suspension footbridge which we took a walk across to see the Temple of the Muses.

13/03/2019 - The group traveled up to Gordon Community Woodland and followed a walking trail and made some discoveries such as an old disused railway line and burial mounds. We split the group into two teams and they both built a shelter out of branches found in the woods. The group also learned about a Swedish Candle and took turns to light it while stopping for lunch by the pond.

20/03/19 - Trip to Gameshope near Talla. We met with Andy from the Borders Forest Trust who chatted to the group about the organisation and what they do. He chatted to the group about upcoming tree planting that will be happening on site and talked about the wildlife that we might spot on our walk. We then went to visit Megget Reservoir the largest earth dam in Scotland.

27/03/19 - Today, the group visited Duns Castle. Before setting off the students researched this castle and grounds and were tasked to identify as many trees and wildlife as they could. On the way back we passed by Hume Castle which is located between Greenlaw and Kelso.

Hadi and I planted moss phlox, bisom flowers and citrus plants outside Woodberry Wetlands Coal House cafe this afternoon. Not only did the finishing outcome look beautiful, it also started to attract more bees which is great for the wetlands ecosystem.
