This week Warout Primary 6/7 were getting mindful in the woods. We played some nature games to help us focus and find calm in the beautiful woodland setting. We took some time to reflect upon John Muir's words: 'Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.' They wrote some amazing nature inspired acrostic poems. Here's a photo of the class taking part in a 'Trust trees' exercise. We were learning about the idea that trees are connected by underground fungal networks and look out for one another - sending distress signals of insect attacks, sharing water and nutrients. We need to remember to look out for one another as humans too and trust each other.

Back after the October holidays and getting into more outdoor learning adventures for P5/6's John Muir Award. Muddy conditions were excellent for our animal tracks and signs scavenger hunt. P5/6 explored to see what evidence of animals they could find and demonstrated some amazing nature knowledge. Here's a photo of them on a woodland exploration on the beautiful Autumn day it turned out to be.

Primary 6/7 were back after the October holidays and keen to return to working towards their John Muir Award. Muddy conditions made the perfect setting for our animal tracks and sign scavenger hunt. The group had a great time exploring and displayed some amazing nature knowledge. Here's a photo of one group trying to identify some deer tracks.

Getting started back after the October holidays met us with some wet weather in Warout woods. Not a problem for P7 though, they're resilient to the elements and the soggy, muddy ground provided the perfect location for our animal tracks and signs scavenger hunt. Here's some of the P7 boys on the lookout for pigeon feathers.

Spent the mornning with the Dean Rangers learning more about the pig, sheep and goat breeds reared in the country park.
