on wednesday the 12th of may I was doing a butterfly transect with Anna Guerin at Hutchinson's bank and we were very excited to find a pair of mating Duke of Burgundy butterflies. They let us get up close and take pictures, it was a great experience- sharnee

Trainee sharnee again, I thoroughly enjoyed bushcraft with Alison at Walthamstow wetlands, We learnt knife skills, making a mallet and tent pegs. We learnt foraging for greater plantain to make balm and we learnt how to make special knots and how to put up a tarp to stay dry and safe. It was a really great experience and incredibly therapeutic working with your hands.

Trainee sharnee here, on friday we Went for a walk with forest school children (under 5s) and a pair of geese and their goslings let us come really close to them, like they knew the kids were safe and weren't going to harm them

This week Primary 7 had a full day's outdoor learning, this time we walked to our local reservoir. Primary 7 took part in mindfulness writing to think about what they could smell, see, touch and hear as well as playing the game Capture the Flag which was a lot of fun. Our teams scored 1-1. We then walked to the reservoir where pupils were challenged to build a raft for our mascots Herbert and Willemina. Primary 7 worked brilliantly in their teams and our mascots got only a little bit wet - Primary 7 did not keep so dry! On our journey home we stopped at our local playpark and listened to some of our class songs next to the beach. After our six mile journey P7 then mapped their trip as a class. We can't believe we have only one more outdoor learning session to go! Then we will be on to planning our celebration of what we have learned thanks to our John Muir Award this year.

This week we went over the sand dunes and learned how to weave using natural resources. We used a cardboard loom to loop the grass round using the method up and down through the string. We used lots of different shades of green and brown that were mostly sticks and grass, that made everyone’s unique and different. This week was very different to last week because this week we got to sit down and appreciate the nature surrounding us. The weaving took a lot of patience and determination but the ending result was great! We look forward to every Thursday for the rest of this term now because we love getting to explore!

The second part of making a bug box hotel

We had some photos and a leaf that we needed to ID at home. The leaf was from an oak tree but we didn't know which type so we had brought a leaf home to compare it to our books and found that it was a pendunculate Oak. We realised today that were were going to be overwhelmed with plant ID and made a decision to just ID 1 or 2 plants for each walk so that we could actually learn/memorise them. Today, for Rowarth, we identified this 'Cuckoo Flower'. Zooey drew all the new birds that we'd seen and we put them up on our map.

The E.C.O. group has now been established and their brilliant name stands for Explore, Conserve, Observe. The group were busy laying the foundations for their Bug Hotel.
