Today we did some wild life recordings on nature. We saw different creatures such as spiders🕷, beetles, flys, dragonfly’s and baby eggs🥚. We also had jars to capture little creatures in such as Spiders, Beatles, Flys, Dragonfly’s. As well as capturing insects we also saw Birds🦅, Bees🐝, Moths, dandelions, snail🐌 and magpies. Last but not least we reflected on what we did.Then we headed back to school.

Hello, this is primary 5/6/7s adventure at Peat moss litter picking to Honor John muir’s love for nature🌲, We loved doing it. We even found a brick 🧱 and a weird engine looking thing, We learned that nature is only fun when you make it a fun and exciting place that everyone can enjoy. John used to sit outside for hours admiring nature😄. Today we did an activity called silent sit to admire nature like John did. He loved❤️ Climbing things such as trees and walls, speaking of that a primary 5 reached the top of a tree and slipped of unfortunately landing on his back laughing his socks off at himself😂. John climbed a tree during a lightening storm just to see what it would do.

John muir was born in Dunbar, Scotland on April 21st 1838. When he was 11 his family moved to America his family bought a farm there. His father forbids him to waste the day studying, instead ordering him to work outside on the farm from dawn till dusk. John invented a get out of bed machine to dump him out of bed at 1am every morning so he could study and read. John muir starts studying at university after he leaves university he chooses to study the natural world by foot, taking up temporary jobs to support himself. He was involved in an accident whilst working in a factory a chunk of metal came off and hit him in the eye and made him temperaly blind, after he got his sight back he was determined to explore nature. He walked 1000 miles from Indianapolis to the Gulf of Mexico. Whilst working as a shepherd in Yosemite John studies and writes about the landscape and mountains around him when he comes out of mountains of Yosemite he got married and then had two daughters after having children he makes multiple trips to Alaska with his dog to study glaciers later in life muir co-founds the sierra club at the age 65, muir spends three days and nights camping with president Roosevelt. After all of that amazing stuff he dies of pneumonia on December 24th 1914 sadly

We were playing moss plant bingo. we had lots of fun. There was some hard plants to find one of them was sun dew. If an insect went on the sun dew it would eat it.😵

Today we were doing John Muir, And again we scooted to the Easter Inch Moss. One of the activities that we did was one my favourite, Basically what we did was get a orange metal rod and stuck it into the ground. I know what you're probably thinking "bUt wHaTs tHe pOiNt iN dOiNg iT¿" well it's actually really simple, if you push the rod down it'll go further (OBVIOUSLY) but when its practically down in the ground you get another rod and you twist it on the one you have put in the ground. Okay enough of the rod i will now actually answer what you most likely asked. 1 rod = 1000 years because the rod is 1 meter, 1 meter = 1000 mm (Each mm counts as one year) Pretty easy maths isn't it? The only thing(s) that'll stop the rod going further is roots and rocks. If you lift up the rod you can see all the peat on the rod. All this basically says is that this peat Is quite ancient...

Today we met Luke from the West Lothian ranger services. He talked to us about PH soil. Then we got put into 3 groups.Each group had a different thing. Group 1 had peat soil, group 2 had lemon juice and group 3 had fairy liquid. We all got a cup and put a little bit of liquid or soil into it.Then Luke put some water into each cup. Then we all got an indicator strip. We put them into the water for 30 second to see what colour they would go. After that we checked the little sheet that the teachers had to see what kind of soil it was. The sheet showed the colours that the indicator strip would turn if the soil was acidic or alkaline. I was in group 2 so I did it with fairy liquid. My groups indicator strips turned green which meant that it was alkaline.
