Today we were very lucky to be able to visit another amazing organization where we could see exactly what it takes to look after, grow and create a green space! We were high in the hills or so it seemed to us with new friends at Watch Us Grow in Cumbernauld! We visited Tom and his team at Watch Us Grow to find inspiration for the Community Projects we are soon to embark on with our Friends at Springburn Park! We want to learn how to care for the environment and look after our own Green Spaces and we found that here was the perfect place to LEARN!!!

All set to go Linzi and Fiona took us through what we had to do! With hands cleaned and mouths at the ready we toasted our marshmallows carefully and went even further by creating Croissant Swirls with our Willow Skewers. Washing this down with water and juice we talked until it was time to leave, exhausted and content with another days Active Learning sitting behind us. Time for another adventure.....

This was our second day with Linzi and Fiona in the Wild Life Garden at Pollok. Our confidence was 'On Fire' as we used the different tools for a second week. The repetition of learning about the tools, the need for safety and the correct technique when using the tools and building the camp fire really helped! Above we are harvesting the willow branches ready for preparing them as skewers for marshmallows and bread making! We learned that Willow is the perfect wood for this and 'wood' work well! We prepared the fire with the help of Fiona and Linzi and learned as we worked getting ready for the Great Pollok Camp Fire Cook Out!!!!

P6/7 spent the morning building leaky dams in the burn behind the school in an effort to help alleviate the flooding at the back of the school when heavy rain occurs. They did a great job and successfully built 4 leaky dams. Leaky dams don't stop the water but slow the pace at which it travels down the burn.

Sophia found out about the life cycle of a frog and made a powerpoint document to share it.

Corey found out about the life cycle of the frog.

Victory involved her family in her nature walk, finding different plants to identify. She also saw some birds too.

Victory did some research online about John Muir then made a poster to share her learning. She also found out about the SOAC and shared her learning through a poster. She went on a nature walk around her wild space and found various trees and bushes.
