All the students were really excite about the post Christmas visit to the Park to really start the work on their project - as several students looked at possible locations to create their 'wildlife stack' (together with staff from the Town Council) the main body of students commenced some tidy, trim and prune existing trees and shrubs - this was to maintain, tidy and ultimately 'conserve' the existing foliage. With clear direction the student a made a really good start on their project. The Park is well used and well attended by the local community and general members of the public - many of which were really enthusiastic as to the students efforts. TC staff are to circulate the students efforts within the TC internal circulations and on their external publications - these methods of publication and sharing has been used previously and been positively received.

Together with the students we continue to explore the park and look at/ consider options within the park. After the initial visit to the site to consider the location and discuss options with Town Council staff and Community representatives, we visited the location to further explore the location and undertake some initial preparation work. All the students explored the whole site to identify the current features present and scope to develop the site. The site possesses many natural established features - trees, shrubs, plants, grasses etc. Specific areas such as wild flower meadows are present (as a result of a previous groups work) . Initial thoughts were to tidy, trim and prune the established trees and shrubs - this would aid in future growth and conservation. The students decided it would be good idea to utilise trimmed back foliage in a pre arranged piles around the park to create a 'wildlife stack' - this needs the 'OK' from the TC Staff as to appropriate locations. A good visit and start to the work required!

Hackworth Park is an established communal park area with many and numerous features which is primarily maintained by the local Town Council. The locality is in the catchment area of the school. The Park requires constant maintenance, housekeeping and new sustainable initiatives which cannot always be delivered by the local Town Council. Together with the students we visited the Park and spoke with Staff from the Town Council. The staff explained there was huge scope to provide assistance/ support in the Park on a Community based project. Together with the students we spoke with staff, visited and explored the Park - considering options moving forward

Returned to the Memorial Garden after the Christmas break to continue with the project. The cold winter weather has taken its toll and diminished all foliage. This view has provided the students with a different perspective on the garden. Consideration in providing a 'natural' screen around the perimeter of the garden is a consideration as the boundary is a metal fence which has been erected by the bordering contractors - the planting of shrubs and foliage is a consideration BUT cost is a factor. The students progressed the continued tidy and conservation of the site while utilise the trimmings on the wildlife stack which continues to diminish in size due to the cold weather and the composting of the natural products - another great day by the students who continue to be enthused by the project. Once the students were thanked for their efforts by the Headmaster who continues to enthuse on the progress and updates through school circulations

All of the Students are really excited and enthusiastic in continuing with the project and wanted to continue in the day although the weather was not the best! We continued with the collective tidy up. Some students looked around the site in 'explore' mode, tasked with developing ideas to progress the site. Ideas such as a nature trail on the site and hide/ seek locations for the school children were a couple of the considerations. All the students worked really hard in their continued tidy up of the trees and shrubs and added the foliage to the wildlife stack. The students are working really well on the project. The headmaster thanked all the students for their efforts, wished everyone a Happy Christmas and will circulate/ publicise the Students efforts within the school and on the school publications to the community - another great effort!
