Land of Iron-19thAug 2020 Riding the old railway line round Rosedale exploring and discovering our industrial heritage of the 19th century Iron industry boom. A brilliant ride on a beautiful day exploring and imagining what it would be like to work and live in this industrial landscape. All finished off with an ice cream in Rosedale Abbey before the daunting climb up Chimney Bank back to the car.

21st July. I had forgotten to add this visit to Walkmill as I didn't go and the photos weren't in my phone! Jon took the kids and met with Rosie's friend Nathan and his dad. They took these pics including one of a common lizard! Rosie enjoyed sharing the new stick dens with Nathan. The last pic was sent to me by Sue from WAG!

21st Aug. A late evening walk. A few weeks ago we had said to Rowan..you choose which way we go. This time Rosie decided.. we wandered around the houses nearby and eventually ended up at the bottom end of the woods near our house. The berries were further along here and the children ate lots of blackberries (blackites round here) and a few elder berries were out too. Rosie tried a Hawthorn leaf with a blackite. She said if only the berries were out earlier on in the year when the Hawthorn leaves are more tender! The pictures shown are mainly blurry which I feel is a fair representation of just how much fun was had climbing and bouncing!

19th Aug. We met with friends at Walkmill.. had a picnic lunch at the play park. We had brought many many boxes and a friend had shared a recipe to make fruit leathers with the berries.. Unfortunately, there were hardly any berries ripe yet and the pots were not really needed yet!

18th Aug. A quiet evening walk with my lovely friend Angela. A few days before at Ennerdale lake we had noticed how purple the heather is this year. Angela reminded me of this when she commented on the heather at Walkmill.

7th Aug. With the announcement that I would be moving away from the area in Sept came the good news that a new person wished to volunteer for Walkmill Action Group. Christine, Sue and I (the founder members of WAG met with David and walked around the community woods with him. He knows the area well and would like to offer practical support to the cause and help with maintenance. We had a lovely evening walk and filled him in on the story of WAG so far. A welcome addition and replacement to the team...

22nd July. After a break of several months due to lockdown the Walkmill Community Woodland subcommittee of Moresby Parish Council met up by Zoom. The community asset transfer we applied for many months ago had been on the verge of being put to panel when lockdown struck. Representatives from the Parish Council, Walkmill Action Group and the West Cumbria Rivers Trust met and we all reaffirmed our commitment to the asset transfer from the County Council to Parish Council to save Walkmill from being sold away from public to private ownership. We learnt that the asset transfer was due to be discussed at the September panel meeting. All fingers are crossed that it will be brought to panel and passed in Sept. This is just after we are due to leave the area. I really hope it will be good news.
