Keeping it Wild Trainee Max - Hi everyone! Earlier this week, all of us trainees went to Walthamstow Wetlands. Lauren and I started the day with Alison and we had a little lesson on rosehip foraging. It was incredible! We were so surprised to learn that rosehips have a higher vitamin C content than oranges. They were also delicious of course!

Over 2 weeks, we walked in the woodland at the back of the school, discovering squirrels, minnows and bird nests just newly built as well as the difference and changes occurring as Autumn appears. We also discussed the damage and risks to nature with the litter and rubbish that had been thrown in the river.

The pupils and families of Elderbank Primary School have been out exploring the local area, updating their log books with some amazing photos using their imaginations and creativity.

After major flooding in our area, including the brook, we decided to put the camera trap back. I moved it further up the tree so I wouldn't need to move it when there was a heavy rainfall forecast :) W/c 5th Oct 2020

Seeing as there was a forecast of very heavy rainfall, I decided to take out my camera trap so it didn't get wet! W/c 28th Sept 2020

This morning we walked 6.5 miles from Farnham to Bentley. We picked up litter along the way except busy country roads like Dora's Green Lane which are dangerous with traffic. We left at 8.45am and finished 1pm including lunch, snack breaks. The first half of the walk was not well signposted so we used our ordnance survey map and written diections. Towards the end of the walk, we couldn't follow the St Swithun's Way because it went through private land and the signage was unclear. There were horses in the fields where we were supposed to cross which got very close to us so we walked along the road for the last part. We saw little birds in the hedgerows, shoots growing from acorns, lots of oak trees. We crossed a lot of farmland.

This woodland stream had J fascinated for ages, how it flowed, trying to reach the cold water, the ferns on the bank, the waxy texture of the liverworts. Finding things to float down it, a vine with leaves on to fish in it.
