25th Sept 2023 Framwellgate.
Today the students spent the afternoon at Pity Me Carrs where they carried out a litter pick and got their first introduction to the area. They explored the paths and marsh areas using a pictorial guide of the different wildlife that can be found in the site. 2.5hrs

2nd October 2023 Framwellgate
Today the students received an input from Simon Bristow of the RNLI about water safety in the outdoors. They learned what dangers to look out for when visiting areas with water and got to practice rescue techniques using a throw line. Two of the sites they will visit, Pity Me and Hardwick park have marshes/lakes and will be consolidated outside by getting them to identify where the rescue equipment is at both sites. 2hrs.

20th November 2023 Framwellgate.
Today the group visited Wharton Park where they learned how to use a cooking stove(Trangia). Theylearned what equipment was needed, how to put them together and how to light them. they then worked in teams to cook hotdog sausages. They worked well in their teams and also learned how to leave an outdoor space as they had found it. They then played football in the football park. 2.5hrs

27th November 2023 Framwellgate
Today the students went to Hardwick Park. They took part in a litter pick around the picnic area organised by the Park Rangers and then we walked the grounds to discover what was there. There are a number of lakes at the park with lots of different species of bird including swans. They explored an old Folly and the den making area where they foraged of branches to enhance an already built den. 2.5hrs

11th December 2023 Framwellgate.
Today the group were given a personal hygiene lecture as part of our mandatory education package and then went to Wharton Park for the last part of the session where they played football and hide and seek in the park. 1.5hrs.

15th Jan 2024 Framwellgate
The boys took part in a Ranger lead session at Wharton Park where they learned to light and maintain a camp fire. They were shown what type of sticks and branches were needed for each stage of the fire and then taught how to use a flint and steel. They worked as a team to maintain the fire. They were shown how to safely use a penknife to sharpen a stick to use as a cooking utensil and then they cooked camp fire dough and marshmallow s'mores. They were shown how to safely distinguish the fire and clean up the area after use. 2.5hrs.
