We began our John Muir Discover award on Friday 26th April! A wet day, we had to stay in the school grounds because our class teacher was off.. so we learnt about the John Muir Trust and became Victorian Explorers, finding interesting specimens, making up names for them and sticking them to our beards! :)
We also found a few beasties..

On Saturday we went for a guided walk up Corstorphine Hill, it was about birds and trees. We started around a place called Rest And Be Thankful and the first thing he talked about was what kind of birds are usually there and at what times he also talked about the kind of trees that are there. Then we moved down a bit and he talked about some of the symbiotic relationships between the birds and trees. Overall it was very interesting and well done.

Cameron found out about John muir in doing his discoveries with this award, he did enjoy doing this and is looking forward to doing Explore award.
Sonny has really enjoyed exploring pett beach, he was quite amazed at what he found there through exploring and then researching everything, it has certainly raised a few issues regarding pollution and the fish, which is something he had not really thought about until now, he is becoming more aware now about the importance of conservation and is looking forward to doing the next award.
Myself, i have also learnt exploring pett beach, and did not realize just how much history it had, i have also learnt more from identifying shells, we watched a video on a whelk checking its surroundings which was really good to be able to see,blue reef was brilliant, we saw an octopus and some amazing reptiles, the shipwreck and fisherman's museum were both very interesting and have really good information on marine life and local history.
Im certain john Muir would love to have joined us on our exploration of pett beach.
