Its been a crazy past few weeks for fungi at Sydenham Hill Wood and we've been doing lots of identification using the Collins fungi guide! The first photo shows 'stereum rameale', a crust fungi that is mainly found on branches. The second photo shows 'exidia glandulosa' also known as black witches butter. The third and fourth photos show 'tremella mesenterica' also known as yellow brain.

On Monday 11th November and Tuesday 12th November I went canoeing and camping at Path Hill, I saw about 5 king fishers when i was canoeing then I went on a walk in the woods when it was dark and heard a muntjac deer, which sounds like barking. The next day I went canoeing again and it rained but it was still fun.

Cathryn Baillie was kind enough to give our P.7s a guided walk to Dun Ringill today. We spotted loads of wildlife and used identification sheets to note down trees we found.

We use fire steels to light the fires. We all had a practice - including the adults! It's harder than it looks. We like making a fire together as we all need to work as a team as there are different jobs to keeping it going. Some people prepare the fire wok, some people collect fire wood and keep a supply coming, we all toast our own marshmallow and someone puts the fire out.

We have several wild and adapted outside spaces at Cedar School. Over this year we will be discovering, exploring, conserving and sharing our experiences about the following areas: Sensory garden Forest School Wild flower meadow Allotment Picnic green Bank of trees Pond We have visited and used some of these areas already but are going to look in more detail at what exists in them and make a conscious effort to protect and enhance them.

We have been learning about fire safety and have been making camp fires in the Forest School area. We needed to collect fire wood from the area and so have been exploring areas off the path. We have had so much rain this month so unfortunately lots of the sticks were wet - no good for burning! We sit round together and have cooked some food on the camp fire including sausages, bread on a stick and marshmallows. We enjoy being out in nature and sat in a circle together taking it in turns to look after the fire. We also sang a few camp fire songs that the adults remembered from their childhood.

Whilst exploring our wild places, we spotted lots of different fungi. We know some can be poisonous so do not touch them. We are going to use our photos to try and identify the types of fungi and learn more about them.
