Here are a few more pics of the dens.

Well both classes did a fantastic job creating brilliant mini dens. One group even added a mini canal to their den so there would be a water supply. Here are some of the pics, we managed to save most of the pics before we had the lockdown but unfortunately not all of them, so apologies if you don’t see your one. More in the next post...

So we are already to find out more with Explore! Challenge Time: The children were all given an animal name for their group and then they had to find them in the wood. However all was not as it seemed, there was a rabbit, monkey ,penguin and bluebird to name but a few. Why were these animals in the wood? Is this where you would find them? ( have a look back at the earlier posts, can you find the penguin in the tree.?😀) Once all the animals are found it’s time for a team huddle. The children were very quick to point out that you wouldn’t find a penguin here! We discussed why that we be and I was delighted when one child said to the rest of the group that the environment was not right! Super discussion then occurred about what animals would be found in the woods and what would they need to survive? After our fabulous chat we moved onto our next task, building mini dens for minibeasts. Find out more....

Hi Everyone, We are off on another Murrayburn Scoot Adventure! This time we are Exploring! We head from the school on our scooters with Kerr from Sustrans as our lead. It’s great going along the canal as we get to see lots of nature along the way. On arrival it’s time for snack, then it’s time to get started. We are going to find out more about our space and in particular the different habitats. Find out more in the next post. Mrs R 🤗

24.04.20 We took a walk in the woods along the bank of the River Calder. We wore wet suits so we could explore by walking through the river. We saw so many beautiful flowers, some we could identify and some we photographed to identify at home. We could smell the Wild garlic and the Bluebells as there were so many. It was shady, damp and mossy in the woods despite the sunshine. The daffodils were over but there were still some primroses and we learnt that primroses and wild violets are edible flowers.

This afternoon, I made some Bird feeders from 'waste' bottles and sticks found in the garden.

It was quite windy today so we didn’t hear many birds, but we saw lots of wild flowers had blossomed. There were hundreds of violas and smaller clumps of different species that we don’t know the name of yet. By Tom Macmillan

When we went on our walk we noticed loads of rabbits in a woodland area. We saw about ten rabbit holes and about five rabbits. One rabbit was not shy and almost came to check us out. By Tom Macmillan
