12 July (2 hrs) Tidying up the runner beans in the polytunnel, by hanging strings from poles, disentangling the beans' twisty growth, and encouraging each plant to climb its own string. Job well done! The wild flower border along the path is in full bloom, so I spent some time photographing and identifying them as well, and shared the results in the Beechbrae WhatsApp group.

Chris from Skern training and skills has been on an after school adventure with his son Freddie. the adventure took place at a local reservoir on Woodbury common. Bystock pools is a wonderful place that seems like a different world to the town of Exmouth where they live. There is a board walk around a small Lilli pad covered reservoir that is surrounded by a range of species of tree. Freddie and Chris enjoyed spotting local wild life including Yellowhammers and nightjars. as well as the fish in the pool. The adventure was an opportunity for Chris to teach Freddie about conservation, on the walk the small amount of little that was found was collected and taken home to be recycled.

Skern Training and Skills Outdoor team have been exploring the Lake District. We went on an exhibition starting from Glenridding, we paddled to Hallin Fell via Canoes, a SUP and a sea kayak. When we got to Hallin Fell we participated in a wild camp ensuring that we embedded the "leave no trace" ethos and reflected on the John Muir award and also our teaching strategies for our Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprenticeship. The following day, we continued to Pooley Bridge stopping off at various points on route to collect litter across the shoreline, we ended up collecting a large bin bag full. It was a great experience as a novice paddler and it was a great opportunity to connect with nature.

On Thursday, we were invited for a visit to the RNLI Station at Kinghorn for a tour of the building and the boat. 2 of our youngsters got to try on and model the outfits the RNLI volunteers have to wear, in all weathers if they have a "shout" to go out to sea. We learned about the boat and the amazing work that they do. We then went to the rowing club boathouse for a presentation of awards and hoodies from the club, before heading up to the cafe at Kinghorn Loch for lunch and a chat.
