Feed

We have some seed potatoes from 'Grow Your Own Potatoes' and have left them by the windowsill to chit. In the meantime, we have been clearing the growing bed ready for our vegetables and have found this to be hard work! We have learnt about safe handling of tools and the names of gardening equipment we need for this task - trowel, fork, wheelbarrow and compost bin. Over the next couple of weeks we will be clearing the area of weeds and putting all the remains in the compost bin to see what happens to it. We found all sorts of things in the raised bed including lovely juicy worms which we talked about and how they contribute to the food growing process.

We started our cycle training in the playground we learned how to ride a bike and park a bike and we learned how to get on and off safely. We then learnt about hand signals and cycling one handed.

During session seven we made dens with sticks and logs. We got inside our den and took these pictures.

We got cotton wool, dead trees, leaves and lichen (Which is a type of moss) We got flint and set a fire. We got sticks and shaved them with a potato peeler to make them sharp and stuck marshmallows on them. We also had digestive biscuits and a tent to sit and eat in .

we went pond dipping and we found small creatures and back swimmers. Some of the creatures were so small we had to use a microscope to see them. Some of the creatures had to be kept separate as they might have eaten each other. We worked in small groups of 2 or 3 pupils.

The students made stick rafts and tried them out on the stream. All were successful!
