Deadwood survey
-
Today I did a survey about deadwood in my two chosen locations. Deadwood is a tree or part of a tree that has died and is in a state of decomposition. Deadwood is vital to the ecosystem as one fifth of all UK wildlife depends on deadwood at some point in their life cycle, so you should not remove any deadwood but you also should not bring in new deadwood from elsewhere since that can spread pests and diseases. This survey looks at many different aspects of the rotting deadwood, including whether it has any bugs, plants, what colour the rot is, and at the end estimating what stage of decomposition it is in. I will send the completed survey to The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), in order to help towards the conservation of St Ann’s Hill.
