Canoe trip in Whitehaven harbour
-
We had Y6 from St Bridget's C of E school out on a canoe trip around Whitehaven harbour on a cool November morning with Whitehaven Harbour Youth Project as part of their John Muir discovery award. I witnessed in the young people fun, adventure, excitement, team working, discovery, resilience, exploration, personal growth and for some overcoming fears. We learned about local history of the slave and rum trade, we litter picked from canoes around the harbour, we observed the sea birds and considered the people working and using the harbour. We visited and emptied the sea bin funded by WHYP and considered the impact of plastic on our environment. Everyone had a great time and wanted to know when they could go again. I said they could go and talk to the head teacher about that!
