The Coracle: A Waterproof Skin
Diving Cormorant 03 AprOnce the coracle has been sufficiently weaved, with a plank installed as a basic but effective seat, it can be released from its frame. This moment was climatic and suspense-ridden, as we could not guarantee that the coracle would hold its shape once freed from the frame. Working with natural resources often brings ambiguities and irregularities - especially as only bare hands and basic tools had been used thus far. However, this helped me build a relationship with nature and its lovable variety. It encouraged me to appreciate 'imperfections'. Thankfully, the coracle's skeleton was strong and sturdy. It maintained it's boated shape, allowing us to add a waterproof layer. With careful attention and some needle and thread work, the waterproof layer was added. Our boat will now do what all boats should - keep water out! I can't wait to take to the water on our yet-named vessel, if anything, the day-by-day and week-by-week nature of its build has only contributed to further excitement.
