Fox stealing eggs

One of the video camera traps is in a local wood where we had hoped there might be pine martens around, so we had left some eggs in a tree as they like them. However, we never expected to see a fox up in the tree stealing the egg! I am wondering whether this was a parent taking food back to a den with cubs as the egg wasn't eaten on the spot. It's certainly not what i expected to see!
