Took part in this nationwide survey. I had realised that have seen very few butterflies in the garden this year and survey had made me reflect that I need to think about putting in plants which they would find useful in the garden . Bees seem to be doing well but not butterflies this year.Six spotted Burnett and a ringlet along with a large white and speckled wood eventually seen.An extra sighting of a small tortoise shell shown seen in a garden centre today as well.Only managed to photograph these as others moved too quickly.

Bike ride around Angle Penisula exploring from Pembroke to Angle then down quiet lanes with views across Angle bay. Early breeze at Frestwest with lots of sand on roads. Meadow brown butterflies coming from hedgeways . Explored lanes down St Tynwells never seen before and Chapel hill.Looked at Napoleonic fort off Angle in distance.

Camping and walking around Dale Peninsula. Started at St. Ismeal's and finished at Broad Haven beach in hot conditions. Ate a lot of pasta and took an unplanned detour on last section. Looked at lots of beautiful places.

We sourced our own firelighters, King Alfred's Cakes from rotten wood, sawdust soaked in a little vegetable oil and remnants of old candles, all of which worked well. We also used charcoal from our previous fire to sketch bats upon the stones.

We spent a hot and muggy day brewing up a cuppa on the kelly kettles and baking bananas on the fire pit. It was so hot the chocolate for the bananas melted before they got near the fire, so we just poured it on!

Our wilderness gathering saw us counting many more bees, navigating with compasses and collecting large rusting metal cans. Beneath one can, a beautiful toad lodged, and whilst we sat, two muntjac deer approached us unaware of us. We used young trees to give us extra height and to see the woodland upside down and dug dark earth from deciduous woodland and red earth from the coniferous trees to discover its composition.
