The Waggonways are an extensive network of paths and trails across old mining land, approximately 4 miles east of Newcastle upon Tyne. We looked at the local history signs to find out more about why the Waggonways were created. Then we looked at the diverse hedgerows, soaked by the rain. There were many hawthorns and the smell was so fresh, compared to through the recent dry weather. Looking forward to exploring at different times of the day and through the seasons.

We would like to thank all the members from the Sustrans team, you showed great patience and encouragement towards the children and they were delighted that you joined in with all the activities too but enabled them to discover, explore and conserve in a pupil led way. It was very interesting helping the kids with their nature project also. I would definitely do it again if they needed me.” “Helping with the children on the John Muir scoot sessions was great fun. Seeing the children interact with such positivity and encouragement for each other was so inspiring. I only wish I was able to join every week. Highly recommend helping out in the future if you can, (just be prepared for some thigh burn if you’re scooting.)” 🛴 😀
