Today I did a survey about deadwood in my two chosen locations. Deadwood is a tree or part of a tree that has died and is in a state of decomposition. Deadwood is vital to the ecosystem as one fifth of all UK wildlife depends on deadwood at some point in their life cycle, so you should not remove any deadwood but you also should not bring in new deadwood from elsewhere since that can spread pests and diseases. This survey looks at many different aspects of the rotting deadwood, including whether it has any bugs, plants, what colour the rot is, and at the end estimating what stage of decomposition it is in. I will send the completed survey to The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), in order to help towards the conservation of St Ann’s Hill. Hello everyone! Keeping it Wild Trainee Max here. As a second lockdown is upon us, earlier this week we discovered puffballs in Crystal Palace Park. Trainee Lauren and I were so excited! As fungi lovers, this was definitely a species we wanted to tick off our lists and we managed to find two different species - result! We have definitely been treated across this fungal fruiting season and I can't wait to see what else we can find in our local areas in East London!

In today's lesson we had a look at different national parks in Scotland the Cairngorms and Loch Lomond. We then created our own national park and called it Elephant National Park. In this national park there are a lot of benches for people to sit down and relax, there are elephants’ people can visit in the zoo and statues from the film Shrek.

For today's lesson we went out into the forest and collected different things to make our picture with. Some of the things we collected were: twigs, acorns, leaves and sticks. Back in class we designed our picture and stuck down all the things we collected on our walk.

Today we visited Cloybank which is a local conservation area in our local community. We explored the area to increase our awareness and understanding of conservation. We were also looking for inspiration for our own development area.

Today the group took an amazing trip to see the wildlife photographer of the the year exhibition at the natural history museum ,it was truly awesome !The winner was Yongqing Bao who took the amazing picture above of a Tibetan fox pouncing on a startled Marmot in China's Qilin Mountains We also looked at some exhibits about natural disasters - our next igse topic .
